Meet our new Canada team

15 February 2022 by Add Energy

Back in November 2019, Add Energy opened its first Canadian office in Calgary. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, securing contract wins of nearly $6 million to support clients with their transition to new CMMS systems and to provide training and development to teams across the country.

This is an exciting time for Add Energy as the most recent contract win includes the appointment of four new people who have now officially joined the team based in Canada.

In this blog post, we speak to each of our new team members to find out more about what they’ll be working on, their experience and what they’re most excited about in their new role.

2021 Headshot Graham Stewart CanadaGraham Stewart, Senior Engineer

Can you tell us about yourself, your role and your experience?

“I’ve been working as a Senior Consultant with Add Energy for just under 18 months but prior to that I have worked in the same role but with AMEC and WOOD. I moved to Canada 10 years ago on a company transfer with AMEC and before the move, I had over 20 years experience working offshore in the UK.”

What are you passionate about or what do you enjoy about your role?

“I love how Add Energy operates and looks after its people. It’s particularly great being able to join the team right from the start of Add Energy’s venture into Canada. Working with Afia McClenaghan, Add Energy’s Country Manager/BD Manager for North America, I can play a major part in its growth and hopefully become as big a success as the Houston office.”

Are there any specific projects you’ll be working on?

“I’ve been involved in all the Keyera projects that we have won to date and hopefully through continuing to build a good relationship with the client, we can play a leading role in any future ones too. This involves the development of maintenance strategies and procedures then the development of the PMs and load sheets for Maximo.”

What are you most looking forward to as part of the new Canada team?

“Having been in Calgary for 10 years now, I’m looking forward to helping the new additions to the team settle in. With many of us coming from the Aberdeen area originally, or at least having connections to it, we will have a lot in common which should give us a great start to bonding as a team.”

2021 Headshot Andy Bell CanadaAndy Bell, Senior Technical Consultant

Can you tell us about yourself, your role and your experience?

“I have spent a lifetime working in data - over 20 years I’ve worked across many different industries from retail to manufacturing to energy. For the past eight years I’ve worked within the energy sector with many clients all over the world.

“My role is very fluid and changes between projects. I started out in Add Energy as a Senior Data Analyst before progressing to Data Team Lead, but at the same time I also worked on projects as Analyst Lead for the BP AGT project and as a Project Manager for the THREE360 Energy CMMS transition project. I am also involved in the assessment of data for potential clients as well as the development of Add Energy’s processes and systems.

“My role now in Canada is working as a Senior Technical Consultant. I will be heavily involved in all aspects of data related to North America projects and helping out with business development, offering a technical support aspect.”

What are you passionate about or what do you enjoy about your role?

“I am very fortunate that my role is spread across multiple departments/functions which means every day is different and comes with different challenges. My job can be very technical and require a lot of problem solving, which is something I am passionate about - taking something difficult to solve and turning it into a positive result. It is very fulfilling and you get the feeling of accomplishing something.

“I also get to spend a lot of time with people at all levels and with different skill sets. I enjoy both mentoring and being mentored.”

Are there any specific projects you’ll be working on?

“I’m currently working as a Project Focal Point on the GreenStruxures project for a client but also getting involved in the project deliverables. Now that I am based in Canada, I will be working with Afia as part of my business development role. But I do still float between Heritage and Keyera projects as required.

What are you most looking forward to as part of the new Canada team?

“The North American team is such a close-knit group who help and look out for each other. I am really looking forward to becoming part of that and contributing to the accomplished skillset. Canada seems to be the hotspot for work at the moment and Afia is doing an amazing job in developing the business here. I am excited for the opportunity to get involved and help her out. We’re only a small team but this is still exciting as it requires all hands on deck and we will need to support each other in everything.”

2021 Headshot Matthew StroudMatthew Stroud, Materials Specialist

Can you tell us about yourself, your role and your experience?

“I’m 29 years old and have been working for Add Energy since January 2020 where I began my role as an Assistant Engineer in the Aberdeen office. I was given the role of Materials Specialist in June 2020 and subsequently traveled to Baku to work with a client on a couple of occasions.

“Following this, I was selected for an international secondment to Canada, and have since made this move more permanent with an official role as Materials Specialist within the Canada office.”

What are you passionate about or what do you enjoy about your role?

“I enjoy interacting with clients and problem solving to make sure the service we provide is exactly what the client requires. Enjoyment of problem solving comes from my two engineering degrees.”

Are there any specific projects you’ll be working on?

“I’m currently working on two projects - materials de-duplication and nomenclature, as well as a data cleansing project.”

What are you most looking forward to as part of the new Canada team?

“I’m mostly looking forward to working with new colleagues in Canada and Houston and continuing to learn and grow within the role and help expand the Canada office even further.”

2021 Headshot Brian SmithBrian Smith, Senior Maintenance Engineer

Can you tell us about yourself, your role and your experience?

“I joined Add Energy in December 2020, working on a contract as a Senior Maintenance Engineer - but I have over 30 years experience working as a project manager on a range of projects with clients globally. I’ve worked in oil and gas but specifically within maintenance engineering and asset management for the past 15 years.”

What are you passionate about or what do you enjoy about your role?

“Developing solutions to problems and challenges by working together as a team with the client and colleagues. I’m also passionate about delivering a quality, value adding product and service, that meets and (where possible) exceeds the client’s expectations.”

Are there any specific projects you’ll be working on?

“I will predominantly be working on the The Heritage Petroleum Company Limited (Trinidad & Tobago National Oil Company) maintenance and integrity build project.”

What are you most looking forward to as part of the new Canada team?

“Living and working in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, experiencing a very different way of life and meeting new people. It will also be good to be working ‘normal hours’ in the same time zone.”
